Closing the loop through the driver

When evaluating vehicle dynamics with a human driver on a simulator it is very important to close the loop through the driver and the vehicle model as quickly as possible with the minimum latency. The simulator will provide a number of cues stimulating the driver's senses, e.g. audio, video, haptic, vestibular. rFpro's architecture has been designed to couple the pipelines that deliver these stimuli as closely as possible to the vehicle model while minimizing the length of time each pipeline takes to deliver information to the driver.

Fastest audio & video pipelines

For our audio and video pipelines rFpro has implemented direct hardware interfaces, in both cases significantly reducing latency. Our video pipeline is about 1.5 frames faster than a native DirectX or Open/GL application, while maintaining channel synchronisation across all the projectors to within 100µs. Our direct audio pipeline shaves 60ms from the standard Windows drivers.

Fastest Haptic & Vestibular cueing

rFpro's soft real-time environment offers the option of an execution framework to host multiple models, which also delivers benefits in terms of delivering haptic and vestibular cues to the driver with minimal latency.

Unbeaten Performance

rFpro’s video pipeline is about 50ms faster than a native DirectX or Open/GL application. The round trip video latency is approximately 21ms which provides an outstanding level of immersion for the human in the loop driver where perceptible levels for visual latency are between 20 and 25ms. Other systems are significantly slower making vehicle dynamics studies totally impractical. rFpro maintains channel synchronization across all the projectors to within 100µs. Our direct audio pipeline shaves 60ms from the standard Windows drivers.
