A simulator that can accurately represent the individual characteristics of a particular vehicle allows you to bridge the gap between subjective targets and objective measures. A simulator can be used as a tool to allow the vehicle to be driven with different sets of attributes implemented in the model, allowing subjective evaluation of the feel of the vehicle early in the program, before test mules or prototypes exist. This avoids the risk of unacceptable vehicle behaviour being identified later, when the engineering costs of redesign to change a fundamental parameter, such as weight distribution or torsional rigidity, may be prohibitive.
