By testing in rFpro, very early design decisions and platform architectures can be evaluated with a professional test driver, years before committing to physical design.

Bring your test facilities to the lab

TerrainServer, rFpro's high resolution road surface ensures that your vehicle model is fed accurate road surface data to ensure correlation with physical vehicle testing on your proving grounds, test facilities and public road routes. The fast, high quality graphics ensure that the quality of test driving is consistently high allowing statistical methods to be applied to test results.

Subjective feedback

Testing fundamental design directions, by a professional test driver, on an rFpro driving simulator, very early in the engineering process, ensures that the feedback from human test drivers can be fed back into the design team, with the potential for making massive costs savings and avoiding significant delays. If this feedback does not arrive until the first prototype can be driven in a traditional test environment the cost of implementing changes can be many multiple of the cost of those changes made as a result of testing in rFpro.

Return on investment

The single greatest return on investment (ROI) from rFpro results from implementing a Virtual test program. The engineering process for OEMs is sufficiently established that implementing process change that deliver cost saving efficiency improvements of a few percent are considered successful. Virtual Test in rFpro has already delivered savings of tens of millions of dollars on a single model's test and validation programme.

Test earlier, test more, save cost and reduce delays

rFpro allows OEMs and T1s to involve their professional test drivers and engineers in the testing and validation of cars, systems and components while the vehicle is still at the model-based engineering stage, before any commitment is made to physical design. By engaging real test drivers earlier in the process, more of the changes resulting from the test and validation processes are made earlier in the engineering cycle which delivers very significant cost savings. Implementing design changes earlier in the vehicle manufacturing process causes less delay and costs less. In a traditional test environment, many of those design changes are as a result of testing prototype and production-intent vehicle by professional test drivers. rFpro allows you to conduct more of that testing earlier in the engineering process, while the vehicle is still model-based.

The VTI Sim IV coupled with rFpro software provide new possibilities for testing and tuning a vehicle’s basic dynamics characteristics, e.g. rapid testing of changes in suspension hard points, geometry etc. When testing the basic chassis settings of a new commercial vehicle, professional test drivers judged the VTI driving simulator IV, running rFpro software, to be a more sensitive tuning tool than pure track test tuning alone.

In the space of 10 days we were able to evaluate around 25 different vehicle configurations using three professional drivers. More importantly, because of the high fidelity visual cueing using rFpro software, driver immersion was very convincing which led to good correlation between their subjective ratings and the objective data.
